Creating an Age-Friendly Community: Assessing Needs and Priorities

In order to determine the priorities and needs of the growing senior population, the Osprey Community Foundation conducted a survey of those aged 55 and older living in Nelson, RDCK Area E1 , and RDCK Area F2 . The World Health Organization’s Age-Friendly Community Initiative was applied as a model for this project. An age-friendly community is an inclusive and accessible environment that “allows people to realize their potential for physical, social, and mental well-being throughout the life course and to participate in society, while providing them with adequate protection, security and care when they need.”
