The project Training, engagement, and retention: a ‘learning region’ approach to rural youth is a partnership between Simon Fraser University, the Lower Columbia Initiatives Corporation, and the Columbia Basin Rural Development Institute that explores rural youth retention, training, and engagement in detail. A literature review was completed as part of this project in order to summarize current literature and provide an overview of the topics, as well as existing examples. There is a great deal of related research and literature and it is growing. The literature reviewed for this document included academic literature, as well as grey literature (public and private sector) and a review of existing programs. While widespread, it is impossible to claim this review comprehensive.
